In every suit or grand game, all four jacks are trump, ranked clubs, spades, hearts, diamonds, above the ace.

Skat is the great game for three. Each hand one player wins the auction and plays alone against the other two, choosing the game and whether to pick up the skat. Only the declarer's score moves, up or down.

How it plays
Skat in three steps.
Thirty-two cards from seven up to ace are dealt ten to each player, with two set aside face down as the skat.
Players bid game values on a fixed ladder of 18, 20, 22 and up, and the winner picks up the skat or plays the hand as dealt.
The declarer needs 61 of the 120 card points in a suit or grand game, and after twelve hands the highest score wins.
Did you know? Skat was invented in Altenburg, Germany, in the early 1800s and is known as Germany's national card game.
